Smoking is the most preventable cause of premature death and disease in the United States.

 

Secondhand smoke greatly increases adults’ risk of heart attack and death. This is also true in children and teens.  Read more.

By kicking the habit, studies have shown that smokers can reduce their risk of cardiovascular disease by 50% after just one year.

Within five years of quitting, smokers can lower their risk of stroke to about that of a person who has never smoked.
